A Life Passion..

You can tell a horse owner by the interior of their car. Boots, mud, pony nuts, straw, items of tack and a screwed-up waxed jacket of incredible antiquity. There is normally a top layer of children and dogs.

A horse is a thing of such beauty...(Xenophon)

Filled with fury, rapt, inspir'd. (William Collins)

Horse thou art truly a creature without equal, for thou fliest without wings and conquerest without sword.

~The Koran

A horse gallops with his lungs, Perseveres with his heart, And wins with his character.
~Tesio

In riding a horse we borrow freedom.

The essential joy of being with horses is that it brings us in contact with the rare elements of grace, beauty, spirit and fire.

To me, horses and freedom are synonymous

The horse through all its trials has preserved the sweetness of paradise in its blood.

...tireless, swift as the flowing wind. Shadowfax they called him. By day his coat glistens like silver; and by night it is like a shade, and he passes unseen. Light is his footfall!

Dear Pam,

These photos make me yearn...

Horses have long been my favourite animal...

When I was a boy I would devour every book on horses there was in the library... the silver brumby, the black stallion, my friend flicker, black beauty...etc etc etc

I think it was more than their beauty... it was their freedom... it was the way they ran... to be emancipated...to be alive...

They capture the heart and the imagination so beautifully...

Thank you my friend for sharing these beautiful pictures and thoughts...

Love and freedom, Maithri

Pam this is an amazing post. Your photographs blow me away.

I'm flattered that have been so nice about my macro/close-up shots. What I do is mostly a matter of getting the camera close to the subject and having a macro setting. What you do in terms of composition and all that goes into a great landscape and action shot is what I aspire and have a lot of trouble with.

I love horses and rode a lot growing up although not since I was in my 20s and never owned my own horse.

This post was a thing of beauty, the photographs, the quotes you found and how you put it all together.

I wondered if pollinators were the issues regarding the comment on my blog about the person who kept tomatoes alive in spite of the drought condition and then the fruit didn't set. I don't know how affected the bees have been by your long term drought but that was the main thing I can think of.

Take care, Carver

Such beautiful creatures of the earth Pam. What wonderful photos - I won't even attempt to pick favorites - they are all so beautiful in their own right. I don't think anything strikes the heart's chord more than a horse running through a field with abandon, his mane and tail flying in the breeze.

Pam, I've never seen anyone who can take as beautiful pictures of animals as you do. You truly capture their spirit.

Sometimes when the Munchkins come to visit me, I take them to your blog and show them the photos of your animals.

These horses are magnificent.

And is that our Monty I see there, having a chat with a couple of horses?

Pam,

Beautiful photos of all the horses, especially the bay colt with the big white star. Fine quality, too.

The accompaniment of the poetry was just the touch needed between the photos.

Horses have a grand affinity with humans. They seem to have been with us since the beginning of time.

Pam...everyone expressed my thoughts on your ability as a photographer so I see no need to belabor that point but I must say mom wasn't horsing around there eh?

Ohhhh, horses!!! How very beautiful they are, how wonderful they smell, and how soulful are their eyes.

Gorgeous photos and delightful quotes, all of them.

Thank you, Pam! I miss my horses so much.

Gorgeous.
I'm always impressed that a prey animal can learn to trust us but the Horse has gone far beyond our wildest expectations.

The first riders must have felt like they had discovered the power of the universe..can you imagine how thrilling that must have been...well actually I guess you can.

Wonderful photos, Pam. (I'm Pam too!) Horses get into your blood and no matter what, you need them in your life. I have one and he's a sweetheart - always the first one at the gate, stuffing his nose into the halter, saying, 'pick me!'

They are a whole 'nuther universe and I relish the time I spend with mine - takes me away from the 'real' world for an escape.
