Edge of Paradise...

Mossman Gorge

I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us aright.

~Henry David Thoreau

The subtle magnetism is working overtime, my thoughts are still upon The Great Barrier Reef and the oldest rainforest in the world, The Daintree National Park...I actually got the opportunity to visit Cape Tribulation in Far North Queensland. It is the point where World Heritage Rainforest meets World Heritage Great Barrier Reef.

I swam in this, one of the oldest rockpools in the oldest rainforest, (Daintree), on earth, and I swam in it. (It was bloody cold too).

It actually is much deeper than it looks too, especially over by the trees.

"The human spirit needs places where nature has not been rearranged by the hand of man."

~Author Unknown

"Nature is man's teacher. She unfolds her treasures to his search, unseals his eye, illumes his mind, and purifies his heart; an influence breathes from all the sights and sounds of her existence."
~Alfred Billings Street
A picture of up inside the tree..just stuck my camera inside and click.
"Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain."
~Henry David Thoreau
Rainforest canopy..

Mangrove trees on the Daintree River...
Daintree River..
Crocodile in the Daintree River..(I didn't swim here :) )

I think these are frog mouth owls (which are not technically owls at all). Again Daintree River.
Green tree snake, still on the river.
Cape Tribulation.
"Every time we walk along a beach some ancient urge disturbs us so that we find ourselves shedding shoes and garments or scavenging among seaweed and whitened timbers like the homesick refugees of a long war."

"The sea pronounces something, over and over, in a hoarse whisper; I cannot quite make it out. "

What wonderful shots you took and such a pleasure to see and also read your quotes as well as your own words. I'm glad you didn't swim with the crocodiles but am impressed you managed to photograph them. The rock pool you did swim in looks very enticing and sometimes cold natural bodies of water feel great, as long as you have something warm to slip on after wards. It's such a wonderful thing how blogs enable us to join people from different parts of the world than us on their trips. Thank you for taking us to the edge of paradise with you.

Sigh... such beautiful places you show us Pam. Love your words and quotes. An interesting bird with great camouflage colours. Are there a lot of crocodiles everywhere or just certain places?
Such lush greenery and beautiful blue water - no wonder you're still in the rainforest or on the beach...

What kind of human are you, taking pictures instead of ripping and destroying that thing which feeds you? Nature must have become man's enemy, we are doing what we can to kill the terrorist oxygen producing eco-system.

Well, Pam, I am astonished, dumbfounded and almost mortified to think that I am not able to walk where you walked, to hear the sounds that you heard and to see the animals you saw or to swim in the cold pools of water.

What am I doing wrong? I love Nature so much that I have considered cheating the mortician, by digging a hole and crawling in to let Nature take me where she goes when she dies.

I feel so fortunate to have you visit and comment. I do. I really do. If you ever visit Dances on Sunshine you might read some not so nice Army language so you might want to skip that post for a while.

Thanks again and have a nice rest of the week.

Gorgeous photos, Pam. What an amazing ecosystem you have down there! I would love to visit some day.

That croc is so prehistoric-looking, it is phenomenal. Good thing you didn't swim in THAT pool!

Great shots. That water even looks cold.

Gee Pam, it's been a while since I've been over here. How ya been? lol Beautiful photos, but I had to quickly get past the snake one. Phobia, you know! Don't know how I'd do in the Outback!

You are truly the master! I don't know which one I like the best. Each one is prettier than the other. Girl, you got da touch.

Oh, I so love your photographs, Pammie mate. And the quotes are all wonderful.

I am especially happy that you didn't swim with the crocodiles in the Daintree River because I have no doubt that you would be considered very yummy, although your camera might have choked them.

Stunning photos of everything you took. My favourite is the rock pool. You obviously had a great trip away. The epigraphs were particularly touching and fit very well with the photos.
